Wholesale Pet Beds for Different Sales Channels

A pet bed designed for a physical retailer may need clear shelf presentation, durable packaging and a balanced size assortment. E-commerce sellers often focus on compressed packing, parcel dimensions and return risk. Distributors may prioritize stable specifications and repeat-order availability. We review the target channel before recommending a product and packing method.

Available directions can include bolster beds, donut beds, mattress beds, crate mats, sofa-style beds, cave beds and selected supportive designs. Product availability changes over time, so buyers should confirm current styles and materials when requesting a quotation.

Custom Materials, Sizes and Branding

Common fabric directions include plush, polyester, canvas-style textiles, Oxford fabrics and selected easy-care surfaces. Filling, anti-slip bottom materials, removable covers, zipper construction and washable components can be evaluated by model.

Branding options may include woven labels, printed logos, embroidery, care labels, inserts and custom packaging. Exact options depend on the material, product construction and order quantity. See our private label pet products and OEM/ODM service for more information.

MOQ, Samples and Lead Time

MOQ is confirmed separately for each pet bed inquiry. Fabric type, filling, dimensions, colors, printing, labels and retail packaging can all change the required quantity. Some standard products may support a smaller trial order, but no category-wide MOQ should be assumed. Sample and bulk lead times are confirmed after the specification and materials are finalized.

Packing and Shipping Considerations

Pet beds are often volume-sensitive. Vacuum compression or rolled packing may reduce shipping volume for suitable constructions, but compression should be reviewed against shape recovery and presentation requirements. We can compare packing options based on the product and delivery channel.

Pet Bed Quality Checks

Relevant checks may include dimensions, fabric appearance, stitching, zipper operation, filling weight, label placement, anti-slip materials, packing and carton marks. Inspection scope is agreed according to the order and buyer requirements. Any specific laboratory, performance or compliance test requires separate confirmation.

Pet Beds — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between memory foam and PP cotton pet bed filling?

The critical difference is not simply comfort — it is how each material should be specified. Memory foam is normally specified by density (kg/m³), thickness, and layer construction. PP cotton (polyester fibre filling), by contrast, is better controlled by fill weight in grams for each bed size, together with the finished dimensions and construction.

For example, specifying only that a bed contains “high-quality PP cotton” gives a buyer very little control over how full the finished bed will be. For PP cotton beds, the fill weight for each size should be agreed and recorded on the product specification or purchase order. For memory foam beds, density and thickness should both be specified rather than relying on terms such as “high density” or “premium foam.”

What is the difference between a solid memory foam core and shredded memory foam?

A solid memory foam core is a continuous foam layer or slab, while shredded memory foam consists of smaller pieces of foam used as loose filling. The two constructions behave differently. A solid core provides a more continuous and predictable support surface, and its density, thickness, and layer structure are relatively straightforward to specify and inspect. With shredded foam, performance depends more heavily on factors such as fill weight, particle size, compartment construction, and how evenly the filling is distributed.

For buyers positioning a dog bed around consistent orthopaedic support, a specified solid-core construction is generally easier to control and verify. The important point is to state the construction clearly rather than using “memory foam” as a catch-all material description.

How should memory foam density be specified for a dog bed?

Foam density should be specified together with thickness, layer construction, and firmness requirements. Density is normally expressed in kg/m³. It is an important control point for material consistency and durability, but density alone does not tell you how firm or comfortable a finished bed will feel. For multi-layer beds, the memory foam comfort layer and the supporting foam underneath should be listed separately on the specification sheet. A useful specification therefore looks more like:

Memory foam layer: density + thickness
Support foam layer: density + thickness

rather than simply “high-density memory foam.” Buyers should agree these specifications before sampling and use the approved sample as the production reference.

How can I verify the foam density I actually received?

Foam density can be checked with a simple weight ÷ volume calculation. For example, cut a 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm foam sample. Its volume is 0.001 m³. If that sample weighs 50 grams (0.05 kg), the calculated density is:

0.05 kg ÷ 0.001 m³ = 50 kg/m³

This basic check can be carried out without specialist laboratory equipment. For production orders, density verification should be treated as one part of quality control alongside dimensions, foam thickness, construction, workmanship, packaging, and recovery after compression. It is particularly useful because two foam cores can look very similar when unpacked even though their material specifications are different.

What does CertiPUR-US® mean for a memory foam pet bed?

CertiPUR-US® certification applies to flexible polyurethane foam, not automatically to the finished pet bed. When certified foam is required, buyers should verify the foam producer and the specific foam being supplied rather than relying only on a general statement that a finished bed is “CertiPUR certified.”

Brands and manufacturers that want to use the CertiPUR-US® name or logo should also follow the programme’s own registration and usage requirements. For private-label projects, certification requirements should therefore be confirmed before production, especially if a certification claim will appear on the product listing, packaging, hang tag, or other marketing material.

Do memory foam pet beds have an odour when unpacked?

A newly unpacked polyurethane foam product can have a noticeable odour, particularly after being sealed in compressed packaging. The intensity and dissipation time can vary depending on the foam formulation, production process, curing conditions, compression period, packaging, and ventilation after opening.

For this reason, brands selling compressed memory foam beds should give end customers clear unpacking instructions and allow the bed to ventilate and recover fully before use. If odour performance is important for your market, it should be discussed during sampling rather than evaluated only after mass production.

Are memory foam dog bed covers removable and machine washable?

They can be designed that way, and removable washable covers are especially useful for memory foam beds because the foam core itself should not normally be machine washed. Depending on the product design, a memory foam bed can include a removable outer cover and a separate waterproof or water-resistant inner liner to help protect the foam. Cover fabrics can include plush, sherpa, velvet, linen-look textiles, Oxford fabric, and other materials depending on the intended use and price point.

For larger beds, buyers should also pay attention to zip quality, seam construction, corner reinforcement, and how easily the cover can be removed and refitted, rather than evaluating the fabric alone. Always follow the agreed care instructions for the specific fabric and construction used.

How should buyers choose dog bed sizes?

Start with the usable sleeping area, not only the external dimensions shown in the product listing. A practical starting point is to measure the dog from nose to the base of the tail and allow approximately 15–20 cm of additional sleeping length, depending on the dog’s sleeping position and bed style. Construction matters as well. A bolster bed with thick side walls can have considerably less usable sleeping space than a flat mat with similar external dimensions. For wholesale programmes, buyers should therefore compare:

external dimensions → internal usable area → intended dog size/weight → carton dimensions

before finalising the size range. For a new collection, a focused range of high-demand sizes is often easier to inventory and replenish than launching too many size variations at once.

What compliance and testing should buyers confirm for pet beds?

Requirements depend on the destination market, materials, product construction, retailer, and claims being made, so testing should be planned before production rather than added after the goods are finished. For EU and UK projects, buyers may need to consider applicable product-safety, chemical, traceability, labelling, and packaging requirements. Retailers may also impose their own testing standards beyond minimum statutory requirements.

For textile or material certifications such as OEKO-TEX®, check exactly which components are covered by the certificate. Certification of an outer fabric should not automatically be assumed to cover the foam, fibre filling, lining, non-slip material, or other components. Similarly, if a retailer requires flammability testing, confirm the applicable test method and product scope before approving the final filling and construction. For project-specific compliance requirements, buyers should provide the destination country, sales channel, and required test or certification standard during quotation.

Can memory foam pet beds be vacuum compressed for shipping?

Yes. Memory foam beds can be compressed and vacuum packed to reduce shipping and storage volume. However, compression should be treated as part of the product specification rather than simply as a packaging decision. Recovery can be affected by factors including foam formulation, compression ratio, storage temperature, and how long the product remains compressed.

During product development, buyers should evaluate not only the packed carton size but also how well the bed returns to its intended dimensions after unpacking. For projects involving long sea transit or extended warehouse storage, compression and recovery requirements should be confirmed during sampling and packaging tests. This is particularly important for e-commerce products, where poor recovery after unpacking can lead directly to customer complaints and returns.

What can be customised when sourcing wholesale pet beds?

Customisation depends on the bed construction and order volume, but common options include:

  • Cover fabric and colour
  • Bed dimensions
  • Filling material
  • Foam density, thickness, and layer construction for applicable models
  • Woven labels and care labels
  • Hang tags
  • Retail packaging
  • Vacuum-compression packaging
  • Carton configuration

MOQ and production lead time depend on how much of the existing construction can be retained. Using an existing bed structure and available fabric usually requires less development than creating a new size, custom fabric, foam structure, and packaging system at the same time. For quotation, buyers can send us a reference product, target dimensions, expected quantity, destination market, and required customisation. We can then confirm the appropriate production route and MOQ for that project.

Why source wholesale pet beds through Calfei instead of contacting individual factories?

Pet beds may look like a simple textile category, but different constructions rely on different production capabilities. A factory experienced with PP cotton beds is not automatically the right production source for a solid-core memory foam bed, just as a supplier able to sew a good cover may not control the foam specification, compression packaging, or testing required for an orthopaedic range.

Calfei focuses on helping buyers turn a product concept into a clear, verifiable specification — including construction, materials, filling, dimensions, customisation, packaging, and the quality-control points that matter for that particular design. For buyers developing several pet product categories, we can also coordinate compatible products within one sourcing programme rather than requiring the buyer to manage each product type independently.
